Everything parents need to know to get the most out of their newborn session.

Preparing for a newborn photoshoot can feel overwhelming alongside everything else that comes with a new baby. This guide covers everything you need to know.

Book During Pregnancy

The golden rule: book your session while you are still pregnant, ideally around 28–32 weeks. Newborn sessions work best within the first 14 days of birth, and popular dates fill up fast.

The Night Before

Keep baby up slightly later than usual the night before — a tired baby sleeps more deeply during the session. Ensure all feeding equipment is packed and ready.

On the Day

Feed baby about 30 minutes before you are due to arrive. Dress them in layers that are easy to remove. Bring a spare outfit, nappies, and any comfort items.

What to Wear

Parents typically appear in a few shots. Choose muted, neutral tones that complement rather than compete with baby. Avoid loud patterns or logos.

Relax

The most important thing is to relax and enjoy the experience. Babies pick up on parental energy. A calm parent means a calmer baby.
